STOCKPORT Metros
lacrosse club
Friendship Through Lacrosse ...
Stockport Metros were established in 1976 for the purpose of organising lacrosse tours on a 'multi-club' basis. Clubs whose players are currently participating are Stockport, Mellor, Poynton, Cheadle, & Norbury.
In the past the clubs of Heaton Mersey, Sale, Moorthorpe, Cheadle Hulme School and Stockport Grammar School have also been involved.
The constitution requires the club 'to select, train, organise and fund junior overseas touring lacrosse teams' and 'to host, arrange games and provide entertainment for visiting junior and school lacrosse teams coming from overseas'.
Since 1976 there have been sixteen Under 13/Under 15 tours to the USA, one Under 18 USA tour, and one Under 13 Belgium tour. From 1979 onwards the Under 13/Under 15 USA tours have been annual exchanges with Anne Arundel County of Maryland, USA on a 'home & away' basis.
The lacrosse tour experience has been found to develop playing and social skills, providing in many cases lasting friendships. The regular exchanges with Anne Arundel County have produced a tried and tested style and format upon which each future tour is based.
